1. Information We Collect

When you use Contrail, we collect the following information:

• Account Information: Your email address and, if you provide it, your name. If you sign in with Google, we also receive your name and profile picture from Google. If you sign up with email and password, your password is stored only as a one-way encrypted hash.
• Travel Data: Trips you enter, such as departure and arrival airports, cities, ports, dates, airlines, flight numbers and notes.
• Technical Data: To keep your account secure we store, per login session, the browser type and IP address. Sessions expire after 30 days of inactivity.
• Payment Information: If you subscribe to Premium, payment processing is handled by Stripe. We do not store your credit card details.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Provide and maintain the Contrail service
• Calculate flight statistics and display your travel history
• Process your subscription payments
• Send important service-related communications

3. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on servers located in the European Union, hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH (Germany). Connections are encrypted (HTTPS), passwords are stored as one-way hashes, and backups are made daily. Access to your personal information is restricted to authorized personnel only.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

• Google: For authentication, if you choose Sign in with Google
• Stripe: For payment processing
• Hetzner: For hosting (servers in the EU)
• Our email provider: To send account emails such as email confirmation and password resets
• OpenFreeMap / OpenStreetMap: The background map in the app is loaded from OpenFreeMap's servers (no account or tracking involved)

Each of these services has their own privacy policies governing how they handle your data.

5. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access and export your flight data
• Delete your account and all associated data (Account → Delete account)
• Cancel your subscription at any time

6. Cookies

We only use essential cookies: one to keep you signed in, and one that tells the website you are signed in so it can take you straight to your map. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
